ALPHADOGS CHOSEN TO PUT THE FINISHING TOUCHES ON POPULAR TELEVISION SHOWS

AlphaDogs continues to gain momentum in Hollywood with a string of impressive projects for cable television

May 02, 2005—Burbank, Calif.—
AlphaDogs, Inc., a post-production studio focused on keeping clients “ahead of the pack,” today announced that it has been chosen to complete post-production work for seven television programs produced and directed by Pilgrim Films & Television, Inc.

“Our challenge is to make each finished project match the director’s and producer’s vision,” said Terence Curren, president of AlphaDogs. “Thanks to the technical expertise and creative vision of the AlphaDogs team, we believe that AlphaDogs is producing some of the highest-quality work in Hollywood. Our continued growth shows that production companies and entertainment studios think so, too.”

The projects were led by Curren and edited by AlphaDogs’ talented team of audio and graphics experts. The majority of graphics and effects were created using Avid® Symphony™ and Adobe® After Effects®.

Television Projects

American Chopper, American Hot-rod, Southern Steel and Dry Dock (Discovery Channel)
AlphaDogs completed online editing for these popular television programs. American Chopper also gave AlphaDogs the opportunity to showcase its audio bay, which the company added in late 2004. AlphaDogs mixed and sweetened the audio for the show in the new bay.

  •  American Chopper is a reality-based show, which follows the various business and social activities of a father-son team (Paul Teutul, Sr., Founder and Paul Teutul, Jr., Chief Designer) who build custom-made motorcycles in their own shop. For the two Best of American Chopper specials titled, “Jr. vs. Sr.” and “Mikey Special” the AlphaDogs team was responsible for both online and audio finishing. One of the major challenges involved in the online process was finishing both episodes in standard definition (SD) for SD broadcast due to the fact that footage for the specials was shot in both SD and HD.

  •  American Hot Rod comes from the producers of American Chopper. The show offers a peek into the life of legendary hot-rod builder and designer Boyd Coddington and his crew. Pilgrim Films normally edits the show in-house but turned to AlphaDogs for online edits and color correction due to a very tight deadline with the series schedule.

  •  Southern Steel focuses on a Virginia-based company that creates custom motorcycles. Russell Frazier, vice president of graphics technologies for AlphaDogs, created the opening titles for Southern Steel and designed graphics treatments used throughout the program. Curren led online finishing. According to Curren, the biggest challenge for AlphaDogs’ editing team was color-correcting the episodes. “All of Southern Steel was shot on location in the garage or outdoors,” said Curren. “With many of the frames illuminated only by ambient lighting, we had to adjust for different outdoor/indoor environments, times of day and camera angles. Moreover, all of Southern Steel was shot using a combination of Mini DV and DVCam cameras, which don t give the same range of color information to work with as higher end cameras.”

  •  Dry Dock is a new series set to premiere in Spring 2005. The program was shot in the Bahamas and documents a cruise ship makeover. Russell Frazier, vice president of graphics technologies for AlphaDogs, created the show s opening graphics. As well, AlphaDogs lent its talented sound editors to the show’s audio.

Ghost Hunters (NBC/Sci Fi Channel)
The show’s first season, which debuted in October 2004 on the Sci Fi Channel and USA Networks, proved to be a huge success. Ghost Hunters pulled in 1.6 million viewers and was picked up for a full season. The program presented post-production challenges as well: because the show attempts to capture supernatural images on film, much of the episodes were filmed in low-light conditions. “In editing Ghost Hunters, AlphaDogs had to make sure that the images were clear and bright enough for the viewing audience,” continued Curren. “Moreover, because the program was filmed at different times of day and night, we again had to carefully color-correct each episode to make sure that the final look was absolutely consistent.”

The Ultimate Fighter (Spike TV)
Based on the popular mixed-martial arts contest UFC (Ultimate Fighting Championship), this reality series follows sixteen men from across America as they travel to Las Vegas to train and compete against each other to become The Ultimate Fighter. Spike TV has picked up the series, whose recent finale was the second highest-rated show on the network, for two additional seasons. AlphaDogs will continue to mix and sweeten the show’s audio.

Strip Search (VH1)
An upcoming reality series from VH1, in conjunction with Pilgrim Films & Television, will scour the country for 15 regular guys who are willing to leave their homes, their jobs and their families for a chance to launch their careers as professional entertainers. The final seven will be awarded contracts as members of the new All-American dance troupe “Thunder from Down Under” and will perform their first show in Las Vegas. AlphaDogs was selected to execute post-production for the show’s online editing and audio.

Kathleen Burns Rohr, executive in charge of production for Pilgrim Films & Television, Inc., has worked with AlphaDogs in the past and handpicked the post-production house for the Discovery Channel work.

“I had worked with Terry on a number of projects before coming to Pilgrim. He is hands-down the best Symphony artist in Los Angeles. He has assembled a talented and organized team at AlphaDogs. At many assembly-line post houses, you are just a billable session. But the folks at AlphaDogs have such passion for the product that they are like an extension of our staff,” said Burns Rohr.
