ALPHADOGS COMPLETES POST-WORK FOR LEVA FILMWORKS DVDS, “BEN HUR COLLECTOR’S EDITION” AND “THE UNBEARABLE LIGHTNESS OF BEING”
Post-studio handled main titles, graphics and color correction
December 5, 2005, 2005—Burbank, Calif.—
AlphaDogs, Inc., a post-production studio focused on keeping clients “ahead of the pack,”
today announced that it has completed work on two DVD projects for Leva FilmWorks, Ben Hur Collector’s
Edition four-disc set and The Unbearable Lightness of Being. AlphaDogs finished post for the
main titles, graphics and color correction.
Work on The Unbearable Lightness of Being DVD (Filmed in 1988 starring Daniel Day-Lewis and Juliette Binoche) included animating parts of the Emotional Memory documentary. Russell Frazier, AlphaDogs vice president of graphics technologies, chose reflection as a visual motif from the film and animated scenes from the movie in spinning, reflected panels that pass by like fleeting memories.
The Ben Hur DVD starring Charlton Heston includes documentaries, audio commentary and other special features. Frazier s graphic work on this project included slowing and separating the iconic image of the chariot in motion from the film and presenting it against the monumental, frescoed style of the film s titles.
“The graphic designers at AlphaDogs are very talented; I no longer go anywhere else for my main titles and graphics. Their in-house people are just too darn good,” said Gary Leva, president of Leva FilmWorks.
Frazier added, “It s a pleasure working with Gary because he does terrific documentaries on top notch films. His attention to detail carries over to the graphics, which must suit both the theme of the documentary and the tone of the film.”
Regarding AlphaDogs’ color correction work Leva said that, “Terry Curren is the best colorist I’ve ever used, including those at several other post houses that are more well-known and considerably more expensive. Terry is able to make the most of my projects visually and his taste is the one thing you can’t teach.”
