ALPHADOGS FIRST TO USE AVID’S NEW HD SYMPHONY NITRIS SYSTEM FOR HISTORY CHANNEL’S “COMANCHE WARRIORS”

Post-studio developed proprietary workflow in one of its Symphony Nitris HD bays

AlphaDogs, Inc., a post-production studio focused on keeping clients “ahead of the pack,” today announced that it has completed post-work on one of the first HD shows finished on the newly released Avid HD Symphony Nitris, the History Channel’s Comanche Warriors, using a proprietary workflow to save time and money.

Comanche Warriors, which details the motivation, tactics, weapons and experiences of the nomadic Native Americans, was shot in HDCAM (at both 29.97 and 23.98) as well as HDV. AlphaDogs’ challenge was to seamlessly integrate both of these formats into the show.

Necessity being the mother of invention, AlphaDogs developed a money- and time-saving process involving automating HDV-recapture for the one-hour HD special.

AlphaDogs President Terence Curren points out, “Conforming HDV footage from mini-DV cassette into the show was a challenge in that there currently is no professional deck to do this. Using one of our Symphony Nitris HD bays, AlphaDogs was able to create a proprietary workflow to automate the HD re-capture with time code accuracy.”

A main concern for Digital Ranch Post-Production Supervisor Abe Scheuermann was seamlessly integrating both footage formats into the show since there is not yet an established HDV workflow, let alone a workflow that integrates HDV and HDCAM simply and efficiently.

“I was extremely pleased with how simple it was for AlphaDogs to integrate both of these formats into the show. Both formats looked great in the show and presented no technical problems,” Scheuermann said. “We were able to save a solid $1000 - $1500 off the cost of the online. In addition, we finished the online very quickly against a very tight deadline.”
